Free Resit & Second Chance
FREE Resit
Candidates are eligible for a Free Resit if they achieve the level they applied for (or higher) in one of the two parts of the exam (Spoken or Written Exam), but do not achieve the level they applied for in the other part of the exam, so that the average of the two parts does not result in a certificate of the level they applied for.
These candidates are eligible for a free resit on the part of the exam they failed.
Eligibility period: Candidates who take the exam:
- from 1/1 to 31/8 are entitled to one FREE resit until 31/12 of the same year.
- from 1/9 to 31/12 are entitled to one FREE resit until 31/7 of the following year.
If the candidate does not make use of the free resit offer within the above deadlines, then the eligibility ceases and the certificate is issued at the level achieved in the first examination.
Certificate issuance: For candidates eligible for free resit, a certificate/result statement will not be issued until the deadline of the entitlement. If a candidate requests a certificate/result statement before the resit, then the entitlement to resit will cease and the certificate/result statement will be issued with the result of the first examination.
Clarifications
- The free resit of one part of the exam (Spoken or Written Exam) is considered a new exam and does not take into account the subjects in which the candidate was assessed in his/her first exam. The candidate should prepare accordingly for the part to be retaken.
- Candidates with additional needs who are entitled to a free resit of their Written Exam will be charged the cost of the scribe (40€).
Second Chance
Candidates who do not achieve the intended level in either part of the exam and are therefore not entitled to a free resit are eligible for a Second Chance.
These candidates have the option of either requesting a certificate at the level they have achieved, or taking both parts of the exam at 50% discount of the exam fee:
- Second Chance for levels B2, C1, C2: 95€
- Second Chance for levels A1, A2, B1: 40€
Eligibility period: Candidates are eligible to make use of the Second Chance up to 2 months after the results of their first exam.
If the candidate does not make use of the Second Chance eligibility within the above time limit, the eligibility ceases and the certificate is issued at the level achieved in the first examination.
Certificate issuance: For candidates eligible for Second Chance, a certificate/result statement will not be issued until the deadline of the entitlement. If a candidate requests a certificate/result statement before the use of his/her Second Chance, then the eligibility for re-examination will cease and the certificate/result statement will be issued with the result of the first examination.
Clarifications
- The Second Chance is considered a new exam and does not take into account the subjects in which the candidate was assessed in his/her first exam. The candidate should prepare for both parts of the exam accordingly.
- A candidate who makes use of the Second Chance will not be entitled to a free resit if in the second exam he/she achieves the intended level in one part of the exam and fails in the other.
